Travel without a timetable:
stop wherever you like

3 min read By the Transfero team
Key takeaways
  • With a private transfer you decide when to leave, where to stop and for how long.
  • Stops are agreed in advance and can be included in the fixed price; with hourly hire you can change the plan on the go.
  • Good stops near Tallinn: Jägala waterfall, Keila-Joa, Lahemaa National Park; on the way to Riga: Pärnu and the Latvian coast.
  • Freedom of route is especially valuable for photographers, families and anyone travelling for the experience.

A timetable decides for you: when to leave, where to stop and how long you may stay. A private driver turns that around. The route becomes yours — with stops for photographs, a restaurant you read about, a waterfall you did not know existed, or a complete change of plan halfway.

What "no timetable" really means

  • You choose the departure time. Leave at dawn for the light, or after a slow breakfast.
  • You stop where it is beautiful, not where the bus station happens to be.
  • You stay as long as you like. Ten minutes for a photo or two hours for lunch.
  • You can change your mind. With hourly hire, a new idea is just a message to the driver.

Stops worth making around Tallinn

Jägala waterfall

About 25 km east of Tallinn, Jägala is Estonia's widest natural waterfall — around 50 m wide and 8 m high. In winter it can freeze into a wall of ice, in spring it roars with meltwater.

Keila-Joa

West of Tallinn, a waterfall, a romantic manor and a riverside park with footbridges — an easy detour on the way to the coast.

Lahemaa National Park

Bogs with wooden boardwalks, granite boulders on the shore, fishing villages and the manor houses of Palmse and Sagadi. One of the best day trips from Tallinn.

Stops on the way to Riga

  • Pärnu — about 130 km from Tallinn: a sandy beach, a historic centre and good restaurants. The natural lunch stop.
  • The Latvian coast — after the border at Ikla–Ainaži the road follows the Gulf of Riga, with seaside villages such as Salacgrīva and the White Dune at Saulkrasti.
  • Riga's Art Nouveau district — before checking in, a short drive along Alberta iela, one of the finest Art Nouveau streets in Europe.
